Fire on Monday gutted the construction accommodating the Information and Communication Technology Centre of the Independent Nationwide Electoral Commission in Abuja.
Whereas no life was lost, the fire destroyed the office of a previous Director in charge of Alternate Dispute Resolution in the Commission.
The occurrence occured months after a similar one occurred in the agency of the commission’s chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega.
On January 7 this year, a similar fire razed the Voter Registry department of the commission.
When correspondents visited the commission, numerous workers were seen discussing the incident in hushed pitch.
But the head Press receptionist to INEC Chairman, Mr. Kayode Idowu said investigation into the incident had commenced.
He said, “There was a secondary fire incident at about mid-day today, Monday April 22, 2013, at the headquarters of INEC in Abuja.
“The blaze occurred in the agency of previous Director in charge of ADR established in the ICT construction, and was restricted to that agency when it was put out. Men of the fire Service adhered to the Commission swiftly answered to put the fire out. There was no damage whatsoever to any crucial facility of the Commission.”
